Citizens on Patrol

The Citizens on Patrol program

This program is comprised of highly trained, dedicated volunteers (many of whom are former law enforcement or military) who serve as additional eyes and ears in Haywood County communities that might not see law enforcement in their neighborhoods on a regular basis. These volunteers work specifically in areas that have community watch programs in place.

These volunteers do not engage in law enforcement activities of any kind and follow an observe and report system as they are in contact with dispatch. Major Jason Smiley oversees the program and the volunteers also work in concert with our public information officer, who is the point of contact for community watch neighborhoods in the county.

To learn more about the COP program or community watch, call our Public Information Officer at (828) 356-2880 or email her at Gina.Zachary@haywoodcountync.gov.
