Patrol is divided into four squads of six deputies each, with one squad on duty at a time. Each squad has a sergeant and five deputies. Patrol works twelve-hour swing shifts and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Because the workload, calls for service and requests for special projects continue to increase, patrol is often supplemented by deputies from other divisions and part-time officers.
Deputies respond to calls for service, conduct minor criminal investigations, collect evidence, surveil problem areas, address domestic issues and neighbor disputes, serve involuntary commitments, serve warrants and civil papers, initiate missing person searches, patrol business districts and residential neighborhoods, and enforce criminal and traffic laws.
