Candidates must have the ability to maintain a perpetual inventory control system; ability to maintain accurate records for chain of custody; ability to develop and implement efficient procedures and operations pertaining to the receipt, storage, accounting, retrieval, control and disposition of all seized property including associated records, forms, reports and related statistical information. Must have considerable knowledge of state and federal laws regarding the care and disposition of evidence and property, knowledge of court procedures pertaining to chain of custody testimony. General knowledge of weapon and firearm safety and handling; ability to operate a computer and other office equipment, Ability to understand and execute difficult/complicated oral and written instructions, directives, and orders. Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines; ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision. Candidate will need to use good judgment, tact, and courtesy and be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality with regard to information obtained, must be able to lift large and heavy objects.
Requires High school diploma or equivalent. Two years experience in a position that involved maintenance of records and maintenance of storage facility or warehouse.
Completion of IAPE Certified Property and Evidence Specialist program. Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Office Management, Management Information Systems, or related field. Certified as a Division of Criminal Information (DCI) terminal operator or if not must obtain certification during the probationary period (six months). Prior law enforcement experience preferred.
Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License, with a good driving record. Must be able to meet state standards for accessing criminal history information as determined by a comprehensive background check, pre-employment physical examination and drug screening. Must be willing to work various hours including nights, weekends and holidays. Must obtain Property and Evidence Management Training within one (1) year of hire or assignment.
