Deputies deliver free turkeys to honor a memory

Ronnie Parton, a Waynesville man, surprised personnel at the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office when he said he was buying 12 turkeys from Ingles for the office. However, Parton said there was a catch to the generous gift.

Parton’s wife Sheila passed away this August and he wanted to do something special to honor her memory and her generous heart. He asked that the deputies give the turkeys away to 12 different people, to spread a message of kindness and generosity at Thanksgiving time on behalf of his late wife.

Five deputies divided up 12 addresses and delivered the turkeys along with a card Tuesday afternoon.

“The reaction from these families when we gave them the turkey and card from Mr. Parton was just amazing. Seeing that look on their face was absolutely priceless. It’s not every day we can get out in the community and do such a fun thing like this. We are thankful to Mr. Parton for his kindness in memory of his wife,” said Sergeant Doug Carver.
